Awami League (AL) mayoral candidate Jahangir Alam widened his lead in the Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) election on Tuesday.
Till the filing of this report, Jahangir bagged 281,835 votes in 256 centres while BNP mayoral contestant Hasan Uddin Sarker polled 130, 322, according to local news agencies.
Earlier, voting in the GCC election was held amid BNP's various allegations of irregularities and vote fraud at many polling stations.
However, the ruling party and its mayoral candidate claimed that the balloting was largely fair and BNP brought the allegations to make the polls controversial.
