The Gono Odhikar Parishad (GOP) has denied any involvement in the attack and arson at the Jatiya Party’s central office in Dhaka’s Kakrail.

Responding to the Jatiya Party’s allegations implicating the GOP in the attack, the party’s General Secretary Rashed Khan said they had “no connection” to Friday’s incident.

“We successfully concluded a programme at Shahbagh to protest the attack on [GOP President Nurul Haque] Nur [on Friday]. Many of us had returned to the party office after the event. We don’t know who later went to the Jatiya Party office,” he told reporters on Saturday after visiting the party chief at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

“Many of us returned to the party office after the event. We don’t know who went to the Jatiya Party office afterwards.”

Responding to Jatiya Party General Secretary Shamim Haider Patwary’s accusation that GOP members were involved, Rashed said: “Gono Odhikar Parishad is not involved in the sabotage at the Jatiya Party office. Even those who joined our solidarity rally had no role in the incident. Shamim Haider Patwary, an ally of fascism, has demanded a ban on our activities. How dare he? Shameem and [Jatiya Party Chairman] GM Quader must be arrested within the next 24 hours.”

Earlier, a delegation led by BNP National Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas visited Nur at DMCH and inquired about his health.
