BNP leader Ishraque Hossain has warned that if the government does not make arrangements for administering oath to him, he will take the oath himself as the mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) with the support of voters.

"The government has taken no initiative to administer my oath. If they don't do it immediately, I will take the oath myself with the support of voters of Dhaka and sit on the chair," he said while addressing his supporters at the Nagar Bhaban in the capital's Gulistan on Tuesday.

He, however, postponed the sit-in programme considering the sufferings of people ahead of the Eid.

"The movement was suspended today (Tuesday) in view of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha. However, if the demands are not met, the movement will resume," he added.

"We have been controlling the Nagar Bhaban for the last two weeks and I could take the chair within two minutes but did not do it because of our commitment to the rules," he said.

Ishraque said the people of DSCC will decide on how the Nagar Bhaban will be run. No external adviser or administrator will be allowed to run this Nagar Bhaban.
