The ruling Awami League has said the incidents of violence in the latest national election was significantly lower compared to the previous polls.
"This election was very participatory," AL Joint General Secretary Abdur Rahman told the media at the party chief's Dhanmondi office after voting on Sunday, reports UNB.
He said holding a peaceful election was a challenge. "It was made possible with the support of the people under a free Election Commission," the AL leader added.
Rahman claimed the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami had failed to execute their "mega plan to thwart the election."
The AL leader also requested Jatiya Oikyafront to accept the people's verdict.
"The election was free, fair and neutral," he said, adding that there were some stray incidents.
"AL leaders and activists were the victims of the attacks," he claimed, noting that some 13 AL leaders and activists were killed in 12 districts in attacks by BNP-Jamaat clique.
He said BNP-Jamaat activists had also killed two Ansar members.
Rahman also lauded Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for "setting an example by holding a free and fair election."
