BNP leader Ishraque Hossain has announced the temporary suspension of the ongoing protest over his mayoral oath after issuing a 48-hour ultimatum to the interim government to fulfil the demands.
He made the announcement from the Kakrail intersection on Thursday, where his supporters have been demonstrating since Wednesday.
"In light of the High Court's verdict, our party has decided to temporarily suspend the movement. We will monitor the government's actions over the next 24 to 48 hours, and our next steps will be determined accordingly," Ishraque said.
He also apologised for the inconvenience and disruption to public services caused by the protests.
Earlier in the day, the High Court dismissed a writ petition that sought a directive to prevent Ishraque Hossain from being sworn in as the mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), thereby clearing the way for his oath-taking.
