Ishraque supporters to unlock Nagar Bhaban today

Supporters of BNP leader Ishraque Hossain said on Sunday that they will unlock the gate of Nagar Bhaban today.

However, the rooms of the administrator and engineers will remain locked, they said on the 39th day of their agitation at Nagar Bhaban. They have been observing their sit-in under the banner of 'Amra Dhakabashi', demanding that Ishraque Hossain should be sworn in as mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).

The supporters of Ishraque further said that they won't allow disbursement of any bill before August 5. They also vowed not to allow collaborators of the immediate past fascist Awami League government to enter Nagar Bhaban or regional offices of DSCC. Besides, they said, they will resist any move to appoint fresh manpower at Nagar Bhaban.

At the demonstration, coordinator of the movement Mashiur Rahman, also former secretary, demanded removal of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan as he did not allow Ishraque to take the oath of office despite the court order and the gazette notification issued by the election commission.

He claimed that there are allegations of corruption against Asif Mahmud at home and abroad. He also demanded that all fresh appointment should be stopped in DSCC. He,

however, said that activities like issuing birth and death certificates and trade licenses, will continue. Mashiur Rahman warned that action will be taken if any regional officials of the city corporation become negligent in discharging their duties.
