Jamaat Ameer meets Japanese business delegation

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman held a meeting on Thursday with a visiting delegation from the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), Japan’s official investment and trade promotion body.

The meeting was held in a cordial and constructive atmosphere at the Jamaat chief’s office at Bashundhara in the capital, said a press release of Jamaat-e-Islami.

The JETRO delegation, led by its country representative Kazuyuki Kataoka, also included country general manager of Sumitomo Corporation Asia & Oceania Pte. Ltd. and representative of the Japanese Commerce and Industry Association in Dhaka Hironori Yamanaka, Dhaka Shoo-Koo-Kai President Manabu Sugawara, Vice-President Hironori Yamanaka and Marubeni Corporation country head Sugawara Manabu.

JETRO Dhaka Office Senior Director Shariful Alam and Assistant Manager Ishrat Jahan also joined the meeting.

During the discussion, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman described Japan as a trusted friend of Bangladesh and acknowledged Tokyo’s long-standing contribution to development of Bangladesh.

He said Jamaat-e-Islami welcomes foreign investment and appreciates Japan’s continued interest in expanding economic cooperation.

The Japanese delegation informed the Jamaat chief that around 300 Japanese enterprises are currently operating in Bangladesh across various sectors.

Dr. Rahman thanked the delegation for their visit and expressed optimism that Japanese investment in Bangladesh would continue to grow in the coming years.

Muhammad Shahidul Islam, president of Jamaat affiliated business body Industrialists and Businessmen Welfare Foundation (IBDWF) was also present.
