Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman has said his party will ensure a safe society and workplace for women.
He has also rejected the idea of confining women to their houses.
"Women will not be locked inside home. Rather, they will live in a safe society and work in safe workplaces," he told a rally at Shaheed Abrar Fahad Stadium in Kushtia on Monday.
"We do not have the money to buy so many locks to keep women inside home," he said, adding that separate bus services would be launched in big cities so that women could travel safely.
"We do politics for the welfare of all people of the country, not for our own party leaders and activists only," Rahman also said.
"We do politics for the emancipation of all. We do politics so that people of the country could have food, shelter, and clothes. Our aim is to give this exploited nation a taste of liberty," he added.
Regarding the role of Jamaat after August 5, 2024, he said the party had not taken any revengeful action against anyone.
Rahman further said many members of a party started extortion and grabbed people's lands after the uprising.
He called upon the extortionists to shun that path.
The Jamaat ameer said, "Shaheed Abrar Fahad is the symbol of our country's independence and sovereignty."
"He [Fahad] himself was a rebel, a name of revolution. He wrote against expansionists, and that was his fault. He was brutally and mercilessly killed."
Rahman said if voted to power, his party would provide training for the youth to make them self-reliant, dismantle extortionist groups, reopen closed mills and factories, and take steps to save the rivers in Kushtia.
The rally was organised by Jamaat's Kushtia district unit as part of the electoral campaigns of the 10-party alliance led by Jamaat.
At the event, Rahman outlined Jamaat's stance on law, governance, and social issues.
