Jatiya Party chairman Ghulam Mohammed (GM) Quader has alleged that his party was coerced into participating in the 2024 elections by the Awami League government.

"We were brought to the election by blackmail," Quader stated during an emergency press conference at the Jatiya Party chairman's office in Banani on Friday, according to local media.

Quader claimed the Awami League applied continuous pressure to ensure Jatiya Party's participation, even going so far as to threaten the party with violence from international terrorist organisations. He emphasised that the Jatiya Party had not joined the elections voluntarily and highlighted similar pressures from the Awami League government in both the 2014 and 2018 elections.

He said everyone gave legitimacy to Awami League by participating in the 2018 elections and the 2024 elections had followed the same coercive pattern.
