Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Chatrodal (JCD) on Monday continued its sit-in programme for the second consecutive day in front of the Election Commission (EC), raising three demands, including allegations of bias in the postal ballot system.

The BNP’s student wing started the day’s sit-in programme at around 11:30 pm, with leaders and activists gathering in front of the EC secretariat.

After concluding the programme on Sunday evening, the organisation announced that it would resume its protest as its demands remained unmet.

Addressing the gathering, Chhatra Dal President Rakibul Islam Rakib said that the organisation would continue its movement until its demands are fulfilled.

Speaking to reporters after a meeting with the Election Commission at around 7:30 pm on Sunday, Rakib said they would again lay the sit-in programme to the EC from 11:00 am on Monday if no progress is made.

Earlier, at around 5:00 pm, a five-member delegation of JCD held talks with the Election Commission.

The delegation was led by Rakibul Islam Rakib and included General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir, Senior Vice-President Abu Afsan Mohammad Yahia, Senior Joint Secretary Shyamol Malum and Organising Secretary Amanullah Aman.

JCD leaders said the discussions failed to produce satisfactory assurances regarding their demands, prompting them to continue the protest programme.
