Khaleda Zia's death: BNP announces seven days of mourning

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has announced seven days of mourning following the death of its chairperson and former prime minister Khaleda Zia.

The party’s Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced the decision on Tuesday at Dhaka’s Evercare Hospital, bdnews24.com reports.

He said BNP leaders and supporters across the country would observe the mourning period by wearing black badges. Special prayers would be held at mosques, and condolence books would be opened at the party headquarters in Naya Paltan and its office in Gulshan.

Khaleda, Bangladesh’s first female prime minister, died around 6:00 am on Tuesday while receiving treatment at Evercare Hospital after a long battle with multiple complex and chronic health issues. She was 79.
