Leaders of the Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish, an Islamist political party, have met the top leaders of the BNP to reach a consensus on national unity and other issues.

They met BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at the BNP Chairperson’s Office in Gulshan on Wednesday, reports bdnews24.com.

Khelafat Majlish Amir Moulana Abdul Basit Azad and General Secretary Ahmed Abdul Kader led the delegation of nine.

The delegation included Nayebe Amir Moulana Sakhawat Hossain, Abdullah Farid, Joint General Secretary Jahangir Hossain, Muhammad Muntasir Ali, ABM Sirajul Mamun, Mostafizur Rahman Faisal and Abdul Jalil.

“Today we came for talks with the BNP. We have reached a consensus on seven points, including the withdrawal of all false cases against the leaders and activists of the political parties that took part in the movement. We’ll work towards it, In Sha Allah. We'll especially focus on creating unity among the Islamic parties and take everyone on board towards national unity,” Khelafat Majlish General Secretary Kader said after the meeting.

He said the reasons behind the “Aug 5 revolution” should be upheld.

“Already, we’ve seen some different scenarios in this regard. Our point is to have unity and not disagreement. It is important to unite to serve the national interest. That’s why we came here to discuss with the BNP and reach a consensus.”

When asked if the BNP was worried about the unity between Jamaat-E-Islami and Bangladesh Shahshontantra Andolon, BNP Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan said they were not. “Alhamdulillah, it’s great,” he said about the unity of the two parties.

“There’s nothing to be concerned about. Those engaged in Bangladesh politics may work together with others nurturing the same philosophy and opinion to propel national politics forward. No one should worry about this,” he said.

“We’re united. Our acting chairman has already announced that those protesting against fascism, if Allah provides [BNP] the opportunity to serve the people in future, then we’ll work alongside them for the welfare of the people in the country,” Nazrul said.

“Therefore, we already have a kind of alliance between us. Those who protested fascism, are our companions. They’ll remain with us in future.”
