Leaders of the Islami Chhatri Sangstha’s Dhaka University (DU) chapter have made a rare public appearance by meeting with the university’s Vice Chancellor to submit a set of demands concerning issues faced by female students.
A delegation, led by the DU unit president and secretary of the organization, met Vice Chancellor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan at his office on Wednesday. This marked the group’s first formal engagement with university authorities in the open.
The president of the DU chapter, Sabikun Nahar Tamanna, is a student in the Department of Botany and resides at Kabi Sufia Kamal Hall. Secretary Mosammat Afsana Akter is a student in the Department of Islamic History and Culture and lives in Bangladesh-Kuwait Maitree Hall. Both are from the 2019–20 academic session.
The meeting signals a significant step for the student wing, which had previously maintained a low profile on campus. Details of their submitted demands have not been disclosed yet, but sources suggest they revolve around safety, accommodation, and academic support for female students.
