Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain, adviser to the LGRD and sports ministries, has said that local elections will no longer be conducted using party symbols.
He disclosed this in a Facebook post on his verified page on Thursday afternoon.
In the post, Asif Mahmud mentioned that the advisory council has approved amendments to four relevant laws, as proposed by the Local Government Division, during today's meeting.
In 2015, the Local Government Act was amended to allow political parties to nominate candidates for the position of Union Parishad Chairman under party symbols. For the first time, such elections under party banners were held in 2017.
