The mayoral candidates in the Khulna City Corporation (KCC) polls have promised to build a city if they win the election.

They made the pledge at an open programme at the local press club on Monday, reports UNB.

The programme was organised by Khulna Unnayan Sangram Samannay Committee. Committee president Sheikh Mosharaf Hossain presided over the function.

The mayoral aspirants answered questions from general people.

Awami League candidate Talukdar Abdul Khalek, Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) contender Mizanur Rahman Babu, Islami Andolan Bangladesh candidate Mozammel Haque and Jatiya Party contestant SM Safiqur Rahman Mushfique attended the event.

However, BNP candidate Nazrul Islam Manju did not take part in the programme alleging that the organisers were biased towards the ruling party aspirant.

Manju alleged that Sheikh Mosharaf Hossain conveyed his support to Abdul Khalek through his Facebook account.

The committee placed a 21-point demand before the mayoral candidates at the programme for the development of the city.

The KCC election will be held on May 15.
