After 19 days in intensive care, senior BNP leader Mirza Abbas has been moved to a cabin at Singapore General Hospital in a cautious step following a complex brain surgery.

He was shifted out of ICU on Friday morning, BNP Health Affairs Secretary Rafiqul Islam confirmed the development, citing a conversation with Abbas’s wife Afroza Abbas.

“His condition is improving. While he has been moved to a cabin, he will remain under close observation… He will now begin receiving advanced physiotherapy," said Rafiqul.

The Standing Committee member’s family has requested everyone to pray for his full recovery.

Abbas was airlifted to Singapore on Mar 15.

Prior to that, he had been receiving treatment at a hospital in Dhaka’s Bashundhara.

On Mar 11, during Ramadan, Abbas lost consciousness at his Shahjahanpur residence during Iftar.

He underwent a brain surgery at a Dhaka hospital immediately after his admission there.

He was then transferred to Singapore for better medical care.
