The students-led National Citizen Party (NCP) is now preparing for righting the wrong after its application for registration was primarily rejected by the Election Commission, citing some minor technical mistakes or deficiencies, party sources said.

Overlapping information, lack of attestation and duplication of data were some of the causes the EC identified. Of late, the EC issued a letter to the NCP detailing the to-do list.

The EC identified six shortcomings in the application and asked the NCP to submit it again after meeting all the requirements by August 3.

The letter said that the list of all the effective district offices of the party with their addresses had not been given.

The name of the party is not mentioned in the rental agreements for the Dhaka and Sylhet district offices.

The list of all the upazila and thana offices with their addresses has not been given. The required number of voters (minimum 200 members) could not be listed 25 upazilas or thanas.

The name of the party is not mentioned in the rental agreement for the Itna upazila office in Kishoreganj. The name of the party and the address of the office are not also mentioned in the rental agreement for the Haluaghat upazila office in Mymensingh.

The EC letter also said that the amount of fund was not mentioned in the NCP's application, and the amount of fund was not mentioned in the statement on sources of fund attached to the application. There is no signature on the last page of the copy of the party's executive committee decision regarding registration.

The NCP, which is now one of the much-talked-about political party formed recently, submitted a huge volume of documents containing over 43,000 pages to the EC headquarters on June 22.

However, all 144 political parties including the NCP, which applied for registration in the recent months, had different types of shortcomings in their applications, EC Additional Secretary K M Ali Newaz told journalists on July 15.

Currently, 50 political parties are registered with the EC.

Contacted, NCP Joint Chief Coordinator Arifur Rahaman Tuhin said, "We are now working on fulfilling the shortcomings. These are minor issues, our team is working to address the shortcomings following the letter."

NCP Joint Member Secretary Joynal Abedin Shishir said they provided the documents following all the rules and regulations.
