The National Citizens' Party (NCP) has criticised the newly proposed national budget, claiming it lacks a clear vision for building an equitable society.
At a press conference on Tuesday, NCP Convener Md Nahid Islam said that while the interim government has addressed pressing economic challenges, the budget fails to offer structural solutions or reflect aspirations for economic transformation following the July mass uprising.
Nahid Islam noted that income inequality remains unaddressed, with no significant action taken against tax evaders. He also expressed concern over the lack of investment for employment generation despite a surge of 2.6 million unemployed in the past year.
The NCP also opposed the provision for legalising black money and condemned the halving of the budget for the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare. While welcoming the allocation for families of July uprising victims, the party said broader reforms are missing.
NCP leaders called for realistic tax strategies and increased support for SMEs, education, and health.
