National Citizen Party (NCP) has demanded the execution of ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina's death sentence be carried out within one month.

"The convicted criminals responsible for enforced disappearances and genocide are the worst not just in Bangladesh, but across global history," NCP convener Nahid Islam told a media briefing at the NCP's office immediately after the verdict.

The International Crimes Tribunal-1, a three-member body led by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder, sentenced Hasina to death on Monday for crimes against humanity committed during the recent student-led mass movement.

Deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina fled to India in the face of the July Uprising.

Furthermore, the court also issued a death sentence to former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, who is believed to have fled to India also.

Addressing the media briefing, Nahid said: "Sheikh Hasina has been identified as a murderer and a bloodthirsty fascist."

"Therefore, Sheikh Hasina's trial will set a powerful precedent, not only for Bangladesh but for all authoritarian and fascist rulers throughout world history," he added.

He also demanded the death penalty for former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal be carried out as well

Besides, the Awami League, Chhatra League, Jubo League and all the fascists and their allies, and the government officials, those who are accused, must be tried as early as possible, Nahid stated."The trial that has begun must continue, and everyone must cooperate to prevent any hindrance to its progress," he added. Meanwhile, NCP's member secretary Akhtar Hossain also said the death sentence for Sheikh Hasina on charges of crimes against humanity is a fair judgment.

At the same time, he called upon the Indian government to send Sheikh Hasina, who is currently in India, back to Bangladesh.
