Two more political parties have joined an alliance of eight like-minded parties led by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Jamaat Amir Dr Shafiqur Rahman said on Sunday.

He said the newly added parties are the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and the National Citizen Party (NCP).

Dr Shafiqur made the announcement at a press conference held at 5:00pm at the Abdus Salam Hall on the third floor of the National Press Club in Dhaka.

The press conference was moderated by Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish Amir Mamunul Haque.

Senior leaders from the alliance were present, including Colonel Oli Ahmed, Bir Bikrom, presidium member of Islami Andolan Bangladesh Ashraf Ali Akon, Khelafat Majlish leader Ahmad Abdul Qader, Jagpa co-chairman Rashed Pradhan, and top leaders of the eight allied parties.

However, no representative of the NCP was present at the press conference.

Addressing the issue, Dr Shafiqur Rahman said a meeting with the NCP had concluded shortly before the press briefing and that the party would formally announce its decision through a separate press conference.
