Nahid Islam, convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has called for constitutional recognition of the 'July Declaration' by incorporating it into the Preamble and Schedules of the Constitution.

He also demanded that the 'July Charter' be finalised and published by August 5.

The NCP plans to unveil the manifesto for a "new Bangladesh" at 4:00 pm today (Sunday), marking the conclusion of its month-long July March campaign.

He urged students and the public who participated in the July uprising to gather at the Central Shaheed Minar at 4:00 pm today to mark the occasion. Nahid Islam said, "We have made it clear that the July Charter must have a legal foundation. The next election should be held based on the principles outlined in this charter."

Referring to information received from government sources, he stated that the 'July Declaration' is expected to be made public on August 5.

However, he said that the National Consensus Commission has yet to resolve issues related to the note of dissent. Nahid stressed that the struggle for a new Bangladesh is far from over.

"Finalising the July Charter by August 5 is a demand not just of the NCP, but of the entire nation," he asserted.

Acknowledging potential public inconvenience due to overlapping events on Sunday-including the HSC examinations and a scheduled rally of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, student wing of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), he expressed regret.

In response to a question about incidents of extortion involving some student leaders, the NCP convener said such incidents contradict with the spirit of the July movement and those responsible should face legal consequences.

He further noted that while the aspirations of the July uprising have not yet been fully realised, the July Charter might represent a partial fulfilment.

Senior NCP leaders including Ariful Islam Adib, Samanta Sharmin, and Abdul Hannan Masud were also present at the press conference.

The National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam today urged the interim government to hold the 13th national parliamentary polls based on the July Charter.

"The interim government must take a decision regarding the July charter...We will not leave the task of reform solely to the elected government," he told reporters at the party's temporary central office in Dhaka.

In this connection, the NCP convener categorically said that the next election must be held based on the July Charter and the next parliament must be formed accordingly.
