Abdul Hannan Masud, the senior joint chief coordinator of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has announced his decision to boycott today's ‘July Declaration’ programme, protesting the exclusion of key coordinators of the July uprising.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday (August 5), Masud said that although he received an invitation to the programme, he learned that the organisers failed to invite all 158 coordinators and deputy coordinators who led the uprising that brought the current government to power.

“I received an invitation card to the July Declaration ceremony. But I’ve heard this government couldn’t invite the 158 coordinators and deputy coordinators of the legitimate body of the July uprising. Perhaps they will arrange seats, but not enough for all 158,” he wrote.

Masud further questioned whether even the families of martyrs would be given space or recognition at the event.

“I don’t know if these chairs will accommodate the families of martyrs—those whose courage and leadership brought about the uprising and this government. Within less than a year, they have become worthless,” the NCP leader added.

Unless due honour is accorded to the uprising leaders and martyr families, Masud said he would refrain from attending the event as a mark of protest.
