National Citizen Party (NCP) Member Secretary Akhter Hossen has initiated a case against Awami League activists in New York over an alleged assault with eggs.

He filed the case at the Port Authority Police Department near John F Kennedy Airport late on Wednesday night (New York local time), which was Thursday morning in Bangladesh, bdnews24.com reports.

The party leader confirmed the filing of the case in a video message published on the NCP's verified Facebook page on Thursday afternoon.

He said in the video, "After the assault at the airport, Awami activists came to the hotel lobby with the intent of attacking us again. At that time, NCP members residing in the US and my well-wishers resisted them and contacted police.

“Subsequently, a police investigation officer advised us to file a case. Following that advice, I went to the police station very close to the airport and filed a case against those who attacked us, attempted to murder us, and issued threats that day.”

Akhter said they alerted the US police that the individuals involved in the incidents in the United States are connected to a group “banned” in Bangladesh for carrying out acts of genocide and crimes against humanity last year. “We informed police about the UN report on this matter. Whether these Awami League criminals are in the country or abroad, we will take legal recourse against them.”

The NCP leader said the crimes reportedly committed by Awami League activists can be legally addressed, and the Hasina government will not get the opportunity to return to Bangladesh.

Awami League supporters threw eggs at Akhter on Monday as he was exiting Terminal 4 of the airport.

He was travelling as part of the entourage of Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, who was attending the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
