Obaidul Quader, Dipu Moni, Anisul Huq re-elected from their constituencies

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has won the Noakhali-5 constituency in the 12th parliamentary election held on Sunday.

He received 171,577 votes with his party’s ‘boat’ symbol, while his nearest rival, Barrister Khaja Tanveer Ahmed of the Jatiya Party, bagged 9,703 votes, reports UNB.

The polling that began at 8:00 am concluded at 4pm without any break amid tight security in 299 out of the country’s 300 constituencies. The counting of votes started immediately after the end of voting.

Awami League nominated candidate for Chandpur-3 (Sadar-Haimchar) Dr. Dipu Moni has been elected in the 12th parliamentary elections held on Sunday.

Dr. Dipu Moni, also the Education Minister, bagged 1,08,166 votes while her nearest rival Dr. Muhammad Shamsul Haque Bhuiyan who was an independent candidate secured 24,197 votes.

Meanwhile, Law Minister Anisul Huq bagged the Brahmanbaria-4 seat for the third time consecutively in the 12th national election held on Sunday.

Anisul bagged 2,20,667 votes while his nearest rival, Shaheen Khan from the National People’s Party secured 6,586 votes.

Annisul Huq was also elected a member of the Jatiya Sangsad in the 2014 and 2018 elections with the ‘boat’ symbol.

The voter turnout in the constituency was 58.13 per cent.

The constituency has a total of 118 polling centres. Of these, 74 centers are in Kasba upazila and 44 centers in Akhaura upazila.

The law minister's father Sirajul Haque, a renowned lawyer of the subcontinent and a member of the Constituent Assembly and the constitution drafting committee, was also a member of parliament from this constituency.
