Patwary blames Chhatra Dal as NCP event attacked in Narayanganj

National Citizen Party (NCP) Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary has warned of “punishment” after a party event in Narayanganj’s Rupganj Upazila came under attack for a second time, which he blamed on BNP’s student wing, Jatiotabadi Chhatra Dal.

The Eid reunion was organised on a local primary school ground in Daudpur Union on Saturday, with Patwary attending as a guest, bdnews24.com reports.

NCP leaders said the stage was attacked shortly before the programme began, leaving several party leaders and activists injured.

The party alleged the attack was carried out by a group led by Sultan Mahmud, a former convenor of the Upazila unit of Chhatra Dal. NCP leaders also claimed the same group had attacked the venue the previous night.

Mahmud could not be reached for comment.

Addressing Chhatra Dal supporters during the programme, Patwary issued a sharp warning, linking the incident to an understanding of political unity between the parties.

“If you attack any of our other leaders and activists, we will also withdraw from the agreement to remain politically united with you,” he said.

Patwary also warned that if he or his party colleagues are attacked again, the NCP would “lay siege” to the home ministry in protest.
