Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) said on Monday that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has breached her oath through her comments on the annulment of quota in government services in 2018.

Earlier on Sunday, the Prime Minister told a press briefing at her Gonobhaban residence that she has abrogated quota system out of her resentment in 2018 following movement by students.

"When you (Prime Minister) took oath you said that you wouldn't do anything out of resentment. You breached your oath. You violated the Constitution," BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi told the media after visiting detained convener of Dhaka south Jubo Dal leader Khandakar Enam in the capital.

"None of them (Members of Parliament) were elected by votes, so it is not a matter for them to breach oath. Their (ruling party) main issue is to hold on to power by any means," he said.

"A tumultuous wave has been crated today for bringing about reform in quota system in government services. The main reason for this (movement) that the Prime Minister spoke against logical movement (by the students)," he continued.

He criticised Prime Minister's comments that those who are on the movements (student movement for quota reform) are the grand children of Razakars (collaborators).

"You (PM) abrogated quota system in 2018 just to give console to the students who were participated quota reform movement that time. You (PM) bear grudge and thinking to use it when opportunity comes/ time comes, so you applied it," he said.

"You (PM) have engaged Bangladesh Chhatra League and Jubo League against the students who are on the movement. You think that you have closed all doors, none will come," he maintained.
