Police have arrested eight individuals linked to banned Awami League (AL) and its affiliates in raids at various locations in the capital.
The arrestees are: organising secretary of banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of Alipur Union unit of Dagonbhuiyan upazila of Feni district Ekram Hossain (25); information and technology affairs secretary of BCL of Dagonbhuiyan upazila unit of Feni district Adnan Pipul (25); member of BCL of Tejgaon University College unit of the capital Md Asibul Haque Arnab (25); joint general secretary of BCL of Purba Chandrapur Union unit under Dagonbhuiyan upazila of Feni district Sajib Rahim Palak (25); member of BCL of Iqbal Memorial College unit of Feni district Saker Alam (24); member of Chuadanga District Council Md Zohurul Islam (43); vice-president of banned Awami League of ward no.63 unit of Dhaka South City Corporation Mokarram Hossain (48) and general secretary of ward no.39 unit ( under Wari police station ) of banned Mohila Awami League Yasmin Rahman (48).
A team of detective branch (DB) police of Uttara circle nabbed Ekram Hossain, Adnan Pipul, Md Asibul Haque Arnab, Sajib Rahim Palak and Saker Alam from Qaderabad Housing, Mohammadpur area in the capital at around 5:20 pm on Sunday while another DB police team of Ramna circle detained Md Zohurul Islam in the capital's Gattoli area at around 5:00 pm on the same day. A DB police team of Motijheel circle arrested Mokarram Hossain at around 11:00 pm from Jatrabari area in the capital and another DB police team of Lalbagh circle nabbed Yasmin Rahman on KM Das Lane in the capoital's Tikatuli at around 3:15 pm on Sunday.
Deputy Police Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) Muhammad Talebur Rahman said the arrestees admitted to taking part in sudden procession of AL in the capital recently.
