Police on Thursday arrested an Awami League (AL) leader, who is a relative of a minister of the former AL government.
The arrestee, identified as Dr Khandakar Rahat Hossain (57), is the maternal cousin of Amir Hossain Amu, former industries minister of the ousted AL government.
Deputy Police Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) Muhammad Talebur Rahman said that a team of detective branch (DB) police nabbed him at around 3:45 pm on Thursday from Uttara area in the city.
He said that a case was pending against the arrestee at the Rampura Police Station during last year's July uprising.
He also said that the arrestee is a "trusted person" of the former prime minister and authoritarian ruler Hasina.
