The police have asked Awami League (AL) to propose names of two more venues alternative to the south gate of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque for holding its rally on October 28.

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) sent the letter in response to a letter AL sent earlier in which it had sought permission to hold a ‘peace and development’ rally at the venue, as reported by local media outlets.

The media outlets also reported that the police sought information on six more matters in the letter, which was sent to Riaz Uddin, office secretary of AL’s Dhaka south city unit, on Wednesday.

These issues include the approximate number of people to be gathered at the rally, time, expansion, places of loudspeakers to be installed, and if members of any other party will be present at the rally.

Md Salauddin Mia, officer-in-charge at Paltan Model police station, issued the letter on behalf of the law enforcement agency, requesting the AL to respond by Thursday.
