Police picked up Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, standing committee member of the opposition BNP, from the capital’s Dholaikhal area during a clash between BNP men and law enforcers in the vicinity .
The senior BNP leader sustained injuries during the altercation, local newspapers report.
Police said they are taking Gayeshwar to the police hospital for "treatment".
Earlier, clashes broke out between BNP activists and law enforcers at different parts of the capital including Dholaikhal, Matuail and Jatrabari while observing the sit-in programme to press home its demand for holding the election under a caretaker government.
