Protests continued in the city on Friday over the killing of Jatiyatabadi Swecchasebak Dal leader Azizur Rahman Musabbir.
People from all walks of life staged protests at Farmgate and Karwan Bazar areas in the city, demanding immediate justice for the slain leader.
Supporters of Musabbir organised processions that began after Friday prayers from West Tejturi Bazar and moved through Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue and Farmgate, and ended at Karwan Bazar.
However, law enforcement agencies said they are investigating the murder and examining possible political motives behind the killing.
Musabbir was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in an alley near Ahsanullah Technology Institute, adjacent to Hotel Superstar on Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue, shortly after 8:00 pm on Wednesday.
Abu Sufian Bepari Masud, general secretary of the Van Workers' Union of Tejgaon Thana, who was accompanying him at the time, was also shot.
Musabbir was a former general secretary of Dhaka Metropolitan North Swecchasebak Dal and also served as a joint secretary of the party's central committee.
During the tenure of the previous Awami League government, he was arrested several times and sent to jail.
Musabbir's wife, Suraiya Begum, told police that her husband had been receiving death threats for some time before the killing.
Meanwhile, BNP Standing Committee member Salauddin Ahmed visited Musabbir's family at Karwan Bazar on the day.
