BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi today (Saturday) said the replantation of hand of 20-year-old Tasfin Ferdous of Tongi who lost his hand in a terrorist attack on November 9, is a rare success.

Praising the doctors at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (NIBPS), Rizvi said, "The rare success of replanting the hand of Tasfin is a brilliant example of the skill and dedication with which Bangladeshi physicians work."

Rizvi made the remarks while visiting Tasfin Ferdous at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, BSS reports.

Earlier, Tasfin Ferdous's hand was successfully reattached following a complex 21-hour microsurgery performed under the supervision of Dr. Mohammad Shoriful Islam Sharif at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

Rizvi said the purpose of his visit to the institute was to witness an exceptional medical achievement. He said, "A teenager named Tasfin Ferdous from Tongi lost his hand in a terrorist attack. With the skill of our doctors, his severed hand was reattached in a long and complex 21-hour operation. Now he can move his hand and fingers - this is truly a marvellous achievement."

"If our doctors receive proper patronage, thousands of people will not have to go abroad for treatment every year. Bangladeshi doctors are outstanding in their merit, intellect, and skill. Today, we saw practical proof of that capability here," he added.

He extended special congratulations to the team of doctors who performed the operation, saying, "Dr. Sharif and his entire team showed diligence, labor, and skill - this is an achievement for our nation. Through their combined efforts, Tasfin is now on the path to recovery, and this is our pride."

BNP Organizing Secretary Meer Sarafat Ali Sapu, Assistant Publicity Secretary Asadul Karim Shahin, Director of the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery Professor Dr. Mohammad Nasir Uddin, Academic Coordinator Professor Dr. Foara Tasnim, Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammad Shoriful Islam Sharif (who led the operation), among others,  were present during the visit.
