BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi today (Thursday) said the caretaker government system is the lifeblood of democracy.
He said, "Today, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the caretaker government. This caretaker government system was the lifeblood for the practice and exercise of democracy in Bangladesh. Sheikh Hasina personally killed this."
Rizvi made these remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a medical assistance programme for the families of martyrs and injured during the July Uprising, as well as for destitute, helpless, and persecuted families, BSS reports.
Amra BNP Poribar, a platform of BNP, organized the event under the direction of BNP's Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) Convention Hall in the city.
Rizvi alleged that fascist Hasina abolished the caretaker government system to perpetuate her power, saying, "Fascist Hasina abolished the caretaker government system to perpetuate her power. With the fantasy that she would rule as the Maharani (Queen) of Bangladesh for life, she manipulated the court and the law enforcement agencies. Even when some within her own party suggested keeping the caretaker government, she did not."
"The verdict today is extremely positive to prevent anyone from becoming a new fascist in Bangladesh. Through this verdict, the path to revitalizing democracy has once again become smooth, and the lifeblood of democracy has been rejuvenated," he added.
Praising Tarique Rahman's leadership, the veteran BNP leader said, "Last time, he (Tarique Rahman) instructed the party not to celebrate his birthday, and this time too, he has instructed against taking up any programmes."
"A national leader, whose ability to comprehend how his people live and what is deeply felt by the people is greater, is a greater national leader. Based on this consideration, he has analyzed society and the state and deeply understood the times," he added.
BNP Joint Secretary General and Adviser to Amra BNP Poribar Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie and BNP Central Treasurer M. Rashiduzzaman Millat spoke in the event as the special guests.
Convener of the Amra BNP Poribar Atiqur Rahman Rumon presided over the event.
