Islami Chhatra Shibir on Thursday pledged to build an inclusive campus if their panel wins the upcoming Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) election.
Abu Sadiq Kayem, the vice-president candidate of the Shibir-backed Oikyoboddho Chhatra Shongshad panel, made the announcement at a press conference.
He said, "Although fascism has been defeated politically in Bangladesh, it still exists culturally. In the past, many students have faced harassment and were cornered simply because of ideological differences. If we are elected with the students' mandate, we will ensure an inclusive and multicultural campus where no one will be marginalised for their beliefs."
Speaking at the same conference, SM Forhad, the panel's general secretary candidate, alleged that their posters had been torn down and vandalised, which is a clear violation of the election code of conduct. He added that although they filed a written complaint, the election commission's inquiry committee has yet to take any visible action.
Forhad further accused rival candidates of repeatedly violating election rules. He claimed that Abidul Islam, the vice-president candidate of Jatiyatabadi Chatra Dal panel, continued campaigning inside Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall past midnight, even though campaigning after 11 PM is prohibited. He demanded strict measures against such breaches of the code of conduct.
