Hadi shooting: Student group blocks Shahbagh intersection demanding home advisor’s resignation

The Jatiya Chhatra Shakti, the student wing of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has blocked the Shahbagh intersection in Dhaka, demanding the resignation of the home affairs advisor following the shooting of Inqilab Moncho Convenor Osman Sharif Hadi, according to bdnews24.com.
Leaders and activists of the group began a sit-in at the busy junction around 12:30 pm on Monday to express their grievances over the authorities' failure to arrest those responsible for the attack on Hadi and the deterioration in law and order ahead of the election.
The protest caused heavy congestion on the thoroughfare, bringing traffic to a standstill for about half an hour.
The demonstrators chanted slogans demanding action over the shooting and calling on the Home Advisor Jahangir Alam Chowdhury to step down.
Abu Baker Majumder, president of Chhatra Shakti, said the the group’s actions were peaceful and aimed at drawing attention to issues of justice and public concern.
"Our movement is not intended to cause public suffering. We hope the interim government will take swift action to alleviate public suffering."
Hadi, a prospective candidate for the Dhaka-8 seat in the upcoming election, was shot in the head in the capital's Bijoynagar area on Dec 12 and remains in critical condition.
