Tarique calls for rebuilding country during BNP office visit

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman visited the party’s central office on Monday for the first time in 19 years, drawing an enthusiastic response from party leaders and activists, whom he urged to work together to rebuild the country.

Tarique Rahman arrived at the BNP central office at 4:06 pm on Monday (December 29) and took his seat at the familiar party headquarters after nearly two decades. His last visit to the central office was in 2006, as per local newspaper reports.

Upon his arrival, Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and Treasurer M Rashiduzzaman Millat welcomed the acting chairman with flowers.

BNP Chairperson’s Adviser and freedom fighter Abdus Salam, Joint Secretary General Habibun Nabi Khan Sohel, central leaders of the party’s affiliated and associate bodies, as well as officials and staff of the central office, were also present.

Addressing party leaders and activists, Tarique Rahman said there was no formal programme at the office and stressed the need to keep roads open to avoid inconvenience to the general public. He said efforts would be made to reopen the road as quickly as possible so that people could move freely.

He added that he would deliver a speech when formal party programmes are announced in the future. Calling for prayers, he urged everyone to remain healthy and well, and appealed to leaders and activists to contribute from their respective positions to rebuilding the country.
