BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman cast his vote amid tight security at Gulshan Model School and College on Thursday at 9:36 am.

He was accompanied by his wife, Zubaida Rahman, and daughter, Zaima Rahman. Members of the army and police were deployed around the polling centre to ensure strict security, according to local media reports.

This marks Rahman’s first participation in a national parliamentary election. The BNP has announced that he will be nominated as prime minister if the party forms the government. His presence drew party leaders and activists, as well as international media and foreign observers.

Rahman is contesting the Dhaka-17 constituency and Bogura-6, his ancestral seat, with the party’s “Sheaf of Paddy” symbol. He returned to Bangladesh on November 25 after 17 years in London exile.
