'Tarique may become voter after election schedule, subject to application'

Election Commission (EC) Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed has said that not only Tarique Rahman, but anyone can become a voter after the election schedule is announced, provided they apply and the Commission approves it. He added that if the EC wishes, Tarique Rahman could also be enlisted as a voter and even contest in the polls.

Responding to questions from reporters at the EC headquarters on Monday, Akhtar Ahmed said, “As far as I know, Tarique Rahman is not a registered voter. However, if the Commission decides, he can be.”

Asked whether anyone—like Tarique Rahman—can register as a voter after the schedule is announced, he replied, “Anyone can. Why mention only Tarique Rahman? Anyone can apply, and the Commission has legal authority to accept such applications.”
