BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman on Tuesday had an emotional encounter with a teenage girl who stopped his motorcade from Mymensingh to Gazipur, telling him she dreams of serving people through politics and becoming an MP one day.
The incident took place in the Seed Store area of Mymensingh’s Bhaluka while Tarique was travelling by bus from Mymensingh to attend another election rally in Gazipur.
Witnesses said the girl asked Tarique’s motorcade to stop, expressing her wish to speak to him.
Responding to her request, Tarique opened the door of his vehicle and listened attentively. “I want to do politics to serve people. One day I want to enter Parliament on my own merit and meet you there. Politics runs in my blood — I cannot stay away from it. Please pray for me,” the teenager told him.
The girl told Tarique that she saw him at the rally but was unable to meet him there. “Seeing you from afar was not enough. Meeting you has been a dream for a long time, so I came to the vehicle to speak to you,” she said.
The girl then handed Tarique Rahman a photograph of her political inspiration, former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia. Tarique received the photo warmly, thanked her, and wished her all the best in her future endeavours.
Tarique’s wife, Dr Zubaida Rahman, was also present during the exchange and the girl also greeted her.
Tarique travelled to Gazipur after addressing a major rally at Mymensingh Circuit House ground as part of the third phase of his nationwide election campaign.
