Why the government is taking so much time in sharing the list of reform agendas on which the political parties have agreed, BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury raised question on Sunday. He also urged the government to publish the list, sign a charter, and then move on for an election.
People want to get their ownership of the country through the election. People want it, as they have long been deprived of their rights to vote for, he said following a BNP Liaison Committee meeting with its political ally Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP). Amir Khasru noted that it is a BaKSAL idea that everyone must agree (to all issues). There would be different opinions, but all must respect the differences.
"We have successfully initiated the political culture of having dialogues among political parties, which has been absent for ages. This meeting is part of the culture. We have to talk to each other (political parties) on various issues," added the BNP senior leader.
After the meeting, BJP Chairman and former lawmaker Andaleeve Rahman Partho said the country cannot run in an uncertain state over the election, demanding (holding) the election after the reforms based on consensus.
"The interim government is saying that the election will be held between December and June. No government can ever push the country into such an uncertainty. There must be a definite election roadmap." The election can be held after completing the reforms, on which everyone has agreed. If there is no consensus, those reforms will not be completed, he noted.
The next government will definitely see whether there will be reforms or not. If it is a people's government (elected one), people will definitely respect it's decisions.
"Of course, it is possible to hold the election before December. The reform proposals have been made. The important political parties will only give opinions on which issues they agree. There is no opportunity for negotiation regarding the issues that have not been agreed," he added.
