Zonayed Saki, chief coordinator of Ganosamhati Andolon, has expressed gratitude to BNP allies, party activists and the people of Bancharampur after winning the Brahmanbaria 6 constituency in the national election.
Saki, who contested as part of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party led alliance, said in a statement on Friday that the victory was the outcome of a long struggle against authoritarianism, joint movements and sacrifices.
“We remember with deep respect the martyrs of our Liberation War and all democratic movements,” he said.
Saki described the election as long awaited and credited voters nationwide for exercising their franchise in an orderly manner.
He also thanked political parties, the interim government and the Election Commission for completing the polls despite limitations.
Saki said the victory of the joint movement partners would advance the struggle for democracy, reform and restructuring of the state.
He expressed hope that the next parliament would move forward with constitutional reforms to fulfil these responsibilities.
Saki emphasised building a united Bangladesh on the basis of national unity.
“All parties in the anti-authoritarian movement must remain united in the national interest and respectful of democratic norms,” he said.
