Many parts of the country witnessed a power outage on Saturday as power could not be produced enough due to a short supply of liquefied natural gas from Moheshkhali terminal.

Till the evening, the country experienced up to 700MW load-shedding, local media reported, citing data from the Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB).

In a Facebook post, the Ministry of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources said the LNG supply from Moheshkhali’s Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) faced an interruption, resulting in a reduced production of power.

As a result, some areas are likely to face power failure, the ministry said, adding that it is trying to resolve the issue as soon as possible.

At the same time, the ministry also sought an apology from customers for the temporary inconvenience to them.

The PGCB data shows around 2:00pm that the country fell short of 724MW of electricity against the demand of around 9,640MW.

Petrobangla officials were quoted as saying that the gas supply has resumed, but the supply didn't reach the level needed to bring the situation back to normal.
