Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has ordered the preparation of a list of individuals killed during the 15 years prior to the July 24 mass uprising by terrorists from the Awami League and its affiliated student wing, Chhatra League, as well as by state forces acting under government orders at the time.

The directive came on Thursday afternoon during a meeting at the state guest house Jamuna between Chief Adviser Yunus and the family of slain BUET student Abrar Fahad — his father Mohammad Barkat Ullah, younger brother Abrar Faiyaz, and maternal uncle Mohammad Mofazzal Hossain, said a spokesperson of the CA Office.

During the meeting, Abrar Fahad’s family requested a comprehensive investigation into every incident in which individuals were killed in political violence carried out by Awami League-backed groups prior to the July uprising.

Mohammad Barkat Ullah also urged the Chief Adviser to take steps to expedite the trial proceedings in the murder case of his son, Abrar Fahad.

“My son was brutally beaten to death by terrorists simply for speaking up for the country. He raised his voice against the unequal sharing of water resources,” he said.

He further added, “His mother still cries out in pain for her lost son. No other mother should have to endure the heartbreak of losing her child — no mother’s lap should be left empty.”

Barkat Ullah also requested that the government take initiative to construct a bridge over the Gorai River in Kushtia, citing long-standing demands from the local population. “Due to the lack of a bridge, around 30,000 people are suffering,” he said.

Abrar Fahad’s younger brother, Abrar Faiyaz, also urged the Chief Adviser to make all educational institutions more student-friendly.

“Our institutions are still not conducive to student needs. There is a shortage of essential labs, equipment, and other facilities for academic work,” said Faiyaz, a third-year student at BUET. “We have high expectations from the interim government. We hope it will take concrete steps to make educational institutions more supportive of students.”

He also called on the government to take strict measures to stop ragging at BUET.

“This was not the first incident of abuse at BUET. Similar things have happened before. Those past incidents also need to be properly investigated and justice must be served,” he added.

In response, Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus said, “The brutal murder of Abrar Fahad shocked the entire nation. Justice will be served in this case. A list will be prepared of those who were killed in attacks by Awami League and its affiliated organizations before the July 24 uprising, and each case will be investigated. Additionally, investigations are ongoing into killings carried out by state forces under the orders of the then government. The government has already taken necessary steps in this regard.”
