The present fascist government can extend its life expectancy for some time by beating, killing, but they have to leave, said BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury on Friday.
“Their time is up; their expiry date is over,” he said, “they have to leave”.
Khasru was addressing a discussion titled “1/11 Conspiracy, Today's Context: Khaleda Zia and Democracy in Bangladesh” organised by Bangladesh Youth Forum at Tofazzal Hossain Manik Mia Hall of the Jatiya Press Club on Friday, UNB reports.
“We will restore our rights at the cost of life. The world conscience, the world democracy is on our side, the people are on our side. Our victory is certain. But that's why we have to take an oath in the coming days. Everyone has to be with the movement every hour, every day. These two months have to be dedicated to the people of the country,” he said.
"The election is a contest between one political party and another political party; A reflection of the will of the people. Here a team's rivalry is with another team or more than one team. But right now, the country is being run by a regime. Many people may say that Awami League. But sorry, there is nothing Awami League here. It's a regime; they're running the country by force. This regime has to be removed. Our movement is against this regime. To overcome this, whole nation must come together,” the BNP leader also said.
“Another liberation war is going on in the country now. The people are united in this war,” he also said.
“The election, which was held in 2008, was supposed to be held within 90 days of the cancellation of the parliament. The election took place two years later. Was it constitutional? Wasn't that against the constitution? We went to that election so it reflected the expectations of the people,” Khasru said.
“But now that reflection is being turned into a vote-stealing project again. The Awami League has single-handedly cancelled the election that will be held on the basis of national democratic consensus. Article Seven of the constitution states that the constitution is a reflection of the will of the people. They're being dishonest with that. They are playing in the name of the constitution. The caretaker government that was in the constitution was supposed to be in the context of national consensus. They cannot do this in the name of a constitution that does not reflect the national will, does not reflect the national consensus. There is no scope for the caretaker government to go out,’ he added.
BNP Vice Chairman Advocate Ahmed Azam Khan, BNP Chairperson's Adviser Habibur Rahman Habib, and BNP National Executive Committee Member Akramul Hasan also spoke at the meeting.
