Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum (BJAF), a platform of pro-BNP lawyers, requested the chief justice of the country to take steps to regain the public perception, faith and trust in the judiciary, demonstrating that the same is free from political influence.

It also requested to the chief justice take steps to ensure that the political cases including the cases under the Digital Security Act, of 2018 are dealt with in a manner which may regain public faith and trust in the judiciary.

The forum made the appeal on Monday through a written representation submitted to Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique.

Advocate AJ Mohammad Ali, President of the BJAF, Barrister Kayser Kamal, Secretary General of the forum, Advocate Zainul Abedin, former President of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) and former Secretaries of the SCBA Barrister Badruddoza Badal and Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kazal were present during the submission of the representation.

The forum claimed in the letter that the political oppositions are being oppressed by the law enforcement agencies by implicating them in politically motivated false cases. Over the years, around 4 million opposition activists have been implicated in more than one lakh politically motivated cases all over the country, they also claimed.

Such alarming use of judicial system by the law enforcement agencies to oppress and prosecute the political oppositions is an ironic violation of the fundamental rights guaranteed under the Constitution, the representation also read.
