Students of Government Titumir College have blocked the road in Dhaka’s Mohakhali as part of their protest against the plan to create a separate university for seven colleges affiliated with Dhaka University.
They have now joined the broader movement demanding preservation of their “independent structure”, even as their call for a university to be formed specifically for Titumir College has gone unanswered.
More than 50 students gathered on the Amtoli-Gulshan road in front of the college around 12:30 pm on Monday, bringing traffic to a halt and causing congestion on the busy thoroughfare, bdnews24.com reports.
AKM Moinuddin, an inspector with the Banani Police Station, said police held discussions with the students and urged them to clear the road.
Although the demonstrators initially refused to disperse, they left after about an hour.
One student involved in the protest warned that they would be compelled to escalate their demonstrations if their demands were not met.
