Protestors from an organisation called Agrashan Birodhi Andolon, or Anti-aggression Movement, have barred the entrance to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a “gate lock” programme, demanding the cancellation of all treaties signed with India during the Awami League regime.

During the demonstraion on Tuesday, a vehicle carrying Palestinian envoy was obstructed at the entrance to the ministry.

The organisation staged the protest for about half an hour from 1pm, said Patrol Inspector Bulbul Ahmed from the Shahbagh Zone of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Ramna Division.

"When the Palestinian envoy’s car approached, we asked them to move aside and they did. Later, the envoy’s car entered the ministry safely,” he said.

Al Amin, a protester, said they had been demanding the cancellation of the treaties signed with India by the governments of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his daughter Sheikh Hasina.

“The government isn’t paying any heed to our demand. Hence, we decided to proceed with the protest at the foreign ministry,” he said, adding they have submitted a memorandum to the government already.

They left the premises later but said they would resume the demonstration on Wednesday, said Bulbul.
