Protesters block Shahbagh intersection demanding Awami League ban

Protesters blocked the Shahbagh intersection in Dhaka city on Friday afternoon, calling for a ban on the Awami League’s political activities.
The blockade began around 4:45 pm following an announcement by NCP Leader Hasnat Abdullah, who was speaking from a stage near the Chief Adviser’s Residence.
Shortly after the announcement, demonstrators brought out a procession and occupied the intersection, chanting slogans in support of their demands, including the ban on the Awami League’s politics.
Similar protests have also spread elsewhere in Dhaka city, including the Purana Paltan intersection, disrupting traffic in parts of the city.
Several political parties, including Jamaat-e-Islami, Islamic Movement and the AB Party, have expressed solidarity with the NCP-led protest.
