Demanding the withdrawal of the Universal Pension Scheme 'Prottoy', public university teachers across the country observed a full-day work abstention on Sunday and decided to go on an indefinite strike from Monday.
Secretary General of the Federation of Bangladesh University Teachers' Association Md Nizamul Hoque Bhuiyan made the announcement at a press conference at the Dhaka University's Arts building on Sunday afternoon.
All academic activities, including examinations, will be halted from tomorrow, he said.
The officers and employees of Dhaka University will also join the protest movement.
Over the past month, the teachers have been demanding the restoration of the previous pension facilities in place of the new pension scheme they termed 'discriminatory'.
They have also been seeking the inclusion of university professors in the super grade and a distinct pay scale for the teachers.
