Students demanding the abolition of discriminatory quotas in government jobs have called a countrywide morning-to-evening blockade for Wednesday.

Nahid Islam, a coordinator of the anti-discrimination student movement, announced this during a press conference in front of the central library of Dhaka University at 6:40pm on Tuesday.

“We are protesting with a single demand: the abolition of all types of ‘irrational and discriminatory’ quotas in all grades of government jobs. We also demand the passing of a law in Parliament to minimise the quota system for backward communities as specified in the Constitution,” he said.
